Can the court give me legal advice?
Judges and court staff are not permitted to provide legal advice. You should contact your attorney if possible. The Toledo Bar Association has a lawyer referral service for both civil and criminal actions. The Toledo Legal Aid Society will sometimes represent persons who cannot afford a lawyer in a criminal action, and the Court can appoint a public defender for those who cannot afford counsel in criminal matters. How can I find out if a motion, order or entry has been filed for a particular case?

Can I come and watch a trial?
Courtrooms and procedures are open to the public. However, certain subject matters may be inappropriate for small children and younger adults. Discretion should be taken in these instances.
Are kids allowed in Court?
Children must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone must behave appropriately within the courthouse and spectators should not disturb court proceedings in any fashion.

Where can I park?
The Court does not validate parking. Free parking is not available. Public parking is located in pay lots surrounding the Lucas County Courthouse. See Directions & Parking for more information.
How can I find out which Judge is assigned to a case?

What hours is the court open?
The court is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Contact the court directly for holiday hours. The court is closed on certain holidays. See Hours & Holidays for more information.
Where are the courtrooms?
Courtroom #11 is used for Protection Orders and located on the 1st floor of the Courthouse. Courtrooms #1 through #4 are located on the 3rd floor. Courtrooms #5 through #10 are located on the 4th floor.
Where are the magistrates’ offices?
The magistrates’ offices are located on the 1st Floor of the Courthouse in Courtroom #11.
Where is the clerk’s office located?
The clerk’s offices are located on the 1st and 3rd floors of the Courthouse.
How do I get a civil protection stalking order?
The office to request a Protection Order is located on the 1st floor of the Courthouse.

Can I bring my cell phone or pager to court?
Individuals are not permitted to bring cell phones into the Courthouse unless he/she is an attorney, a public safety officer, a juror, a Courthouse employee, or has been pre-authorized by the Court Deputies Department. Unauthorized cell phones brought into the Courthouse will be locked in a security pouch that will be unlocked upon exiting the Courthouse.
Can I act as my own attorney?
Parties have the right to represent themselves. However, doing so puts them at a distinct disadvantage. The law is complex. Failure to follow proper procedures or to inform this Court of relevant legal authority can result in judgment being entered against a party.

How do I get a transcript?

What should I wear to court?
Please dress comfortably but appropriately for the courthouse setting. Jeans are acceptable. However, shirts with suggestive language or logos are inappropriate attire for the courtroom. Temperatures throughout the courthouse can fluctuate, so you may want to bring a sweater or jacket.
I don’t get around well because of my health. Can I still access the Courthouse?
Yes. The Courthouse is modern and is accessible to individuals with canes, walkers, or crutches. The facility is wheelchair accessible. Some elevators serve the courtroom floor, and ramps in other parts of the building. If you have special needs, please contact the court in advance to make arrangements.
